Although mostly dormant these days, Incredible Edible are still responsible for organising Frome’s famous Annual Potato Day and Seed Swap.
Incredible Edible Frome is part of a successful national movement that describes itself as “passionate people working together for a world where all share responsibility for the future wellbeing of our planet and ourselves”, and aims “to provide access to good local food for all”.
They were founded with a mission of working from the grassroots up by finding disused/poorly used green spaces in the town and, together with the local community, exploring the viable options for a given site.
The Town Council gave permission to plant fruit, veg, and plants for bees and butterflies in the public planters around town, and also in beds in Victoria Park. They also gave the chance to create a Health and Wellbeing Garden in the park, and IEF ran a children’s design competition as part of the permaculture design process.
Along with the Frome Community Gardens Group and the Apothecary Garden Frome they formed the Growing Frome network.
