Aaron Thierry talk: Find courage to face the brutal logic of climate breakdown

September 1, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

How can we meet the facts of Climate Breakdown and an Ecological Crisis with optimism? What does the latest science say? And what can we be do about it? Dr. Aaron Thierry will give an overview of the latest science of climate breakdown. He’ll make explicit the connections between the physical and ecological changes already taking place, and how that impacts human welfare. He will show how current emissions targets are nowhere near ambitious enough to avoid extreme alterations to our environment. The talk will demonstrate the human capacity to initiate change. It will explore how previous challenges have been met, as well as examine examples of action around the world that are already taking place. He will finish by envisaging what needs to happen for individuals and societies to contribute to the radical transformation necessary. This event, being hosted in collaboration with Frome Town Council, is suitable for a general audience, and will be participatory.

Aaron Thierry received his PhD in Ecology from the University of Sheffield. He subsequently researched the impacts of global warming on the carbon cycle in Arctic ecosystems at Edinburgh University. His studies have led him to be very concerned about the potential impacts of disruptions to our climate. He has been a passionate advocate for environmental and social justice for several years.
